Autostar 494 LCD replacement

-----------------------------------

Hello

I had to replace a broken LCD screen of an Autostar 494. Unfortunately the original LCD module was impossible to find and the only solution was to buy a new Autostar (costing ~80 EUR).

I tried with success to adapt an external LCD module with a similar pin-out (I had to solder the pin to the existing flat cable) but I was not too satisfied about the solution (it was very fragile and ugly).

Two weeks ago I found in ebay a LCD glass module with a compatible flat cable (ERC1602-3 costing ~7 EUR): the only problem was it was bigger then the original so it needed to be fixed externally.
I used a 3D printing service (http://www.print3dbucuresti.ro) and to create a support: the costs of the support was very reasonable and the quality was better than I expected.

To help who can be in the same situation (the Autostar LCD modules are quite fragile) I created a guide where I detailed all the steps I did (it is in Italian language, but if needed I can translate in English).

The requirements are:
1. A broken autostar
2. ERC1602-3 LCD module
3. A solder and stain cable
4. 3D printer (or access to 3D printing service)
5. A good glue (Picatura or any cyan-acrilate glue)

You can find the STL files that can be used to print the support. I created it using FreeCad, if you needs the source files (to adapt to a different type of LCD module) you can just ask.

I hope it helps someone with the same problem.
