Tot legat de Subaru 8.3-m citisem pe wikipedia despre faptul ca la inaugurare a fost folosit pentru putin timp si vizual, acum am gasit un post pe facebook al unui japonez ce a avut norocul sa faca probabil cele mai bune observatii astronomice la ocular:

"Gary Fujihara When the Subaru Telescope was being built, a huge custom eyepiece for the Nasmyth focus was fabricated for the pleasure of then-princess Sayako of Japan. A few months after the dedication of the telescope, then Director Norio Kaifu allowed all faculty and staff to come up in 16 pax vans to get eyepiece time on the 8.3m cassegrain telescope. Numerous extended objects were chosen, but M57 was a highlight for me because I was able to see Ring Nebula in all its technicolor glory! M13 extended beyond the FOV, and my brain caused me to believe I could discern parallax while moving my eye from one end of the exit pupil to the other to see the entire FOV (my optical engineering friends denounced the design since it wasted so many photons!). True story, and if it would have costed $2700, would have been worth every penny!"
