In an interesting twist of evolutionary fate, the velociraptor – a ferocious predator immortalised in Jurassic Park – has given way to a rather docile descendent: the turkey. But how and why does a dinosaur built for the kill evolve into this unassuming and slightly bizarre looking bird? While many picture the velociraptor as man-sized ruthless killers with lizard-like skin, palaeontologists now believe the raptors were only waist high and covered in feathers. Despite the feathers, the velociraptor is an evolution dead end – unable to fly and dying off millions of years ago. Archaeopteryx is the missing link between the velociraptor and modern day birds. Taking to the skies as early as 150 million years ago, this “dino bird” is smaller than a cat, making it easy pickings for the featherless flying reptiles: pterodactyls. But a cataclysmic asteroid levels the playing field, triggering tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and darkness that wipes out all animals larger than a cat and enables modern birds to evolve and thrive. si cauta si tu pe google despre Dino turkey si iti garantez ca vei gasi milioane de pagini care explica evolutia de la dinozaur la curcan, acesta a devenit unul acvatic ascunzandu-se prin ape si supravietuind, nu in ultimul rand a fost un rapitor si un zburator.
