Since I did such a great job kicking the hornet's nest last time with my list of favorite astronomy books, I decided to attempt another round in the friendly dispute. So here is my list of the best lunar books (in my humble opinion). Please note before hand, that there will be no books written by Patrick Moore on this list for obvious reasons stated in my earlier messages. 1. Ralph Baldwin, 1949, THE FACE OF THE MOON. This book caused the birth of modern lunar studies. Don Wilhelms wrote that Baldwin was pretty much right about everything, later confirmed by the Apollo missions. Very rare--grab it when you can. 2. Ralph Baldwin, 1963, THE MEASURE OF THE MOON. Magisterial in scope, deserving of the Nobel Prize. Geologists and astronomers are ineligible for the award. Stupid. 3. Don Wilhelms, 1993, TO A ROCKY MOON. Tells the whole story of the American Space Program from a lunar geologist's perspective. Excellent. 4. Garrett Serviss, 1909, THE MOON, A POPULAR TREATISE. Filled with a sense of love and wonder for the hobby. First class and rare. 5. Peter Wlasuk, 2000, OBSERVING THE MOON. An excellent modern guide. 6. Ernest Cherrington, 1969, EXPLORING THE MOON WITH BINOCULARS. Still a great book for two-eyed lookers. 7. Peter Grego, 2005, THE MOON. Another good modern handbook for us 60mm telescopists. 8. Charles Wood, 2003, THE MODERN MOON - A PERSONAL VIEW. Doesn't get any better than this 9. Antonin Ruckl, 2004, ATLAS OF THE MOON. Still the best lunar atlas, bar none. 10. Peter Schultz, 1972, MOON MORPHOLOGY. A very thick book based on Lunar Orbiter information and interpretation there of. Excellent. 11. William Sheehan & Tom Dobbins, 2001, EPIC MOON. The whole story of visual telescopic study over the centuries. Incomparable. 12. William Pickering, 1902, THE MOON. The first photographic atlas studing different lighting conditions throughout the lunar month. Also very rare, but worth looking for. Do the members have any personal favorites that I missed here? I'd love to hear about them. Clear skies and cherry pies for the deserving (and observing) refractor rod
