This is my opinion:

Stellarium needs 3D acceleration, so you need a laptop that use OpenGL acceleration. Most of modern laptops has an integrated video card that supports it. If it runs with 1fps it means that these driver could not be installed (in this case stellarium use software rendering, much more slower).

Another suggestion is not to buy the most powerful laptop (the loses they value very fast) but to optimize at max what you have already.

For example:
  - Install a clean copy of windows (not the vendor provided) to be sure there are not additional utility that use cpu / ram.
  - Take care to install all the needed drivers, so you are sure you can use the video acceleration, power management, etc.
  - Use the window installation for Astronomical use only. If you need to use it for study/work, you can have a multiple installation in two partitions. In this way you are sure that when you are out for astro-imaging you will have all the power for you.
  - Use alternative programs that use less resources: i.e. instead of Adobe Acrobat Reader you can install FoxIt, instead an huge media player you can user foobar2000, and so on.

All this, in my opinion.
